The B55 and B55.2 demolition project at Sellafield involves the controlled demolition and dismantling of the B55 Office Complex and B55.2 Turbine Hall, located within the WAGR complex, down to existing ground-floor slab level. The scope includes soft stripping, asbestos remediation, high-reach mechanical demolition of the structural frame, cladding and reinforced-concrete floors, together with segregation and processing of demolition arisings, backfilling of voids and final site clearance. A key constraint is Substation 65, which is located within the B55/B55.2 structure and must remain operational and be protected from demolition impacts, dust and water ingress throughout the works. Retained basements and associated structures also require protection, while uncertainties associated with ageing structures, buried services, below-ground voids and incomplete historical information must be managed through robust surveys, demolition engineering and risk-informed planning. Overall, the project is intended to provide a safe, demolition-led solution that reduces workforce exposure, removes redundant infrastructure and supports accelerated hazard reduction across the wider WAGR decommissioning programme. WAGR Overview and Site Information The Windscale Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor (WAGR), commissioned in 1962, was the prototype for the UK's second-generation Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor (AGR) fleet. Existing records confirm the presence of Low-Level Waste (LLW) and Intermediate-Level Waste (ILW), resulting in ongoing radiological and contamination hazards. All buildings within the WAGR area are owned by the Remediation operating unit, remain under active surveillance and maintenance, and are classified as Beta Gamma contamination facilities. Project Scope The scope comprises enabling, strip-out, waste management and decommissioning support activities across the WAGR facility, alongside support for wider Windscale decommissioning programmes and emergent operational requirements. Newry, Mourne and Down District Council (NMD)
Newry, Mourne & Down District Council looking for a Conservation Engineer who shall undertake a structural assessment of St Paul's Church and its environs and prepare a phased, costed conservation strategy addressing short-, medium- and long-term actions. St Paul's Church (ruins) is located within Crag Cemetery in the Rostrevor Conservation Area. The cemetery is accessed via a lane off Mary Street/The Square and is bounded by St Bronagh's GAA Clubrooms to the west, with residential development to the south and east. While the church is neither listed in its own right nor a scheduled monument, it is considered curtilage listed due to its proximity to a Grade B listed memorial (HB16/06/050). The church ruins are in a deteriorated and unstable condition, which has led to the closure of the graveyard on health and safety grounds. This has significant implications for public access, heritage value and community use. A structural appraisal was undertaken in 2019, with further recommendations issued in 2021. Although initial actions were progressed, the project subsequently stalled due to COVID-19 disruption and changes in personnel. The condition of the structure has since worsened, and the site remains closed. To access this competition: Registered: Login to https://suppliers.multiquote.com and view the opportunity CA18575.
