Best app for electricians in the UK in 2026

Electricians ask one app to do three different things: fill in certificates, run the diary, and price the work and get paid for it. No tool in this roundup is the best at all three, so decide which matters most to you before you sign up for anything.

The important bit first. EstiMate does not issue electrical certificates. It won't produce an EICR, an EIC or a minor works certificate. If certificates are the main reason you want an app, pick one of the forms-and-certificates tools below and check its form library during the trial. Where EstiMate earns its place is the other side of the business: pricing rewires and fit-outs properly, contracts and variations, CIS when you're subbing for a builder, and the accounts.

What kind of electrical business are you?

  • Domestic call-outs and small works. You want a quick diary, forms on your phone and fast invoices.
  • Rewires, extensions and commercial fit-outs. You want take-off from drawings, staged payments, variations and CIS.
  • Maintenance and compliance contracts. You want planned maintenance, certificates and a customer portal.
  • Fire, security, EV and solar. There are specialist estimating and paperwork tools for you.

Prices checked October 2026 on each vendor's pricing page: Tradify, Fergus, Powered Now, Joblogic, Simpro (quote only) and Payaca, with EstiMate's on our pricing page (what you pay, with a VAT receipt for every payment). Powered Now's prices are ex VAT; we couldn't confirm the VAT basis for Tradify, Fergus, Joblogic or Payaca. Our research didn't cover Countfire's prices.

1. EstiMate: best for electrical contractors who price projects

A full rewire or a shop fit-out is a project, not a call-out. EstiMate prices it with a material and labour breakdown, sends a quote link where the client can accept and tick optional extras (a consumer unit upgrade, say, or extra sockets in the new kitchen), and turns the accepted quote into a contract they sign online. When the client changes their mind halfway through second fix, the variation goes to them on an approval link and the contract total and invoices update.

On Pro, AI take-off reads the architect's PDFs and shows which sheet each quantity came from, so you can check the count before you price it. Check it, don't trust it blindly. When you're subbing for a builder, CIS deductions and the CIS register sit in the Accounts tab with the P&L and VAT figures. It's £15.99 a month per business with one office login, £39.99 for Pro, and the free plan covers 3 jobs a month.

2. Tradify: best for domestic electricians who want forms and a diary together

Tradify has digital forms and certificates: completed forms become PDFs and approved ones are locked (Tradify forms). Add scheduling, timesheets and invoicing and it covers a domestic electrician's week. Lite is £34, Pro £37 and Plus £44 per user a month, with a 14-day trial. Use the trial to check the exact electrical forms you issue are in the library. Torn between this and Powered Now? Read Tradify vs Powered Now.

3. Fergus: best for electrical firms with a full diary

Fergus is job management for trades including electricians, with supplier price-book integrations so your supplier prices can feed the quote (Fergus for builders). The Fergus Go app captures signatures on sign-off certificates and forms (Fergus help), and Fergus AI builds quotes. Essentials is from £39 and Pro from £45 per full user a month, though some Fergus pages show Essentials at £35, so check the live page. We couldn't find CIS deductions in its help centre, so test that if you sub for builders. We compare it with Jobber in Fergus vs Jobber for plumbers, electricians and builders.

4. Powered Now: best for sole-trader electricians who want MTD built in

Powered Now has more than 80 forms and certificates. The range is gas-heavy, but the business is aimed at UK trades with a strong gas, heating and electrical focus. The bigger draw is tax: native CIS, reverse-charge VAT, and MTD VAT returns sent to HMRC from the Professional plan (Powered Now MTD). EstiMate doesn't file VAT returns, so if you do your own, that's a genuine advantage. The Business plan is £28 a month ex VAT for one user and includes MTD for Income Tax; sending VAT returns needs Professional, at £32. Read EstiMate vs Powered Now.

5. Joblogic: best for electrical maintenance and compliance contractors

Joblogic is UK field service software (Joblogic) for service and maintenance contractors across more than 30 trades, electrical among them. It has compliance forms, certificates, planned preventative maintenance and a customer portal where clients approve quotes. Standard is from £45 per user a month, billed annually, and the pricing page gives 5 users at £225 a month as an example. If most of your work is planned maintenance and compliance visits, it's built for that. See Joblogic vs EstiMate.

6. Simpro: best for larger electrical contractors

Simpro is Australian software for trade contractors, electrical included, with progress claims, retentions and variations. Simpro Takeoffs reads PDF drawings, sets the scale and uses symbol recognition to count fixtures such as lights and wiring (Simpro Takeoffs). Pricing is quote only, with one-time setup and onboarding fees. When its Lightning AI platform launched in May 2026, existing contracts were offered a 15% uplift, rising to 25% after the promotion, with a price lock capping later annual rises at CPI plus 3% (Simpro press release). More in our Simpro alternative post.

Specialists: fire, security, EV and solar

  • Countfire is UK cloud estimating and take-off software for fire-alarm and security installers, with UK customer case studies (Countfire). If that's your main work, look at it alongside a general quoting app.
  • Payaca is UK software for solar, heat-pump, battery and EV-charger installers, with MCS and DNO paperwork built into the job workflow (Payaca). It's priced for install businesses: the latest UK pricing page we found showed Growth at £1,199 a month with 25 users, and an Accelerator plan at £299 a month for 12 months for qualifying new install firms of up to 8 users. Snapshots conflicted, so check the live page. We compare it in Payaca vs EstiMate.

How to pick

  1. List the certificates you issue in a normal month. If an app can't produce them, it isn't your certificate app, however good its quotes look.
  2. Keeping certificates in one app and pricing bigger jobs in another is a reasonable split. Decide which job each app does and stick to it.
  3. If you sub for builders, check how each app handles CIS deductions on your invoices. Our CIS guide explains what to look for, and trade software that handles CIS compares the apps.
