Best job management software for UK tradespeople in 2026
"Job management software" covers two very different businesses. One runs lots of short jobs: a leak today, a fuse board tomorrow, six boiler services on Thursday. The other runs fewer, longer ones: a rear extension that takes ten weeks, with stage payments, variations and subbies. The best app for one is often the wrong app for the other.
So here's the straight answer. For call-out and service work, ServiceM8, Tradify, Fergus and Jobber are built for it, and ServiceM8's free plan is hard to beat for one person. For bigger service firms with office staff and vans, Commusoft and BigChange go further. For builders and contractors who quote, contract and run projects, EstiMate is the one on this list built for that job. It is not a dispatch tool, and we'll say so again below.
Short jobs or long jobs?
Ask yourself three questions before you look at any feature list.
- How long is your average job? Hours or a day points to a field-service app. Weeks points to construction software.
- Who needs to log in? If the whole team needs a full login, check how each app charges for users.
- What happens to the money? Stage payments, retention and CIS need more than an invoice button.
Our post on job management apps vs construction software goes deeper into that split.

Prices checked October 2026 on each vendor's pricing page: ServiceM8, Tradify, Fergus, Powered Now, Jobber, Commusoft and BigChange. EstiMate's prices are what you pay, with a VAT receipt for every payment. ServiceM8 and Powered Now list prices ex VAT, Jobber lists US dollars excluding sales tax, and we couldn't confirm the VAT basis for Tradify, Fergus, Commusoft or BigChange. "None found" means we couldn't find a free plan on their website in October 2026.
1. EstiMate: best for builders running projects
EstiMate follows a building job from price to final invoice: a quote link the client accepts online, a contract signed with an e-signature, a programme and planner, site records, variations the client approves with one tap, payment milestones, invoices with a pay-online link, then the P&L, VAT figures and CIS register in the Accounts tab. See how it fits together on our construction project management page.
You pay per business, with one office login: free for 3 jobs a month, £15.99 for unlimited jobs, or £39.99 for Pro with the AI tools. On Pro, site workers get a job by QR code or link and log time, expenses, photos and diary entries without a full account, so taking on a labourer doesn't put the bill up. If you need several office logins with roles, that's EstiMate Corp, from £249 a month, and a per-user app can work out cheaper for a small office team.
Where it doesn't fit: there's no dispatch map, route planning or van tracking. If you run 30 engineers on reactive maintenance, pick one of the field-service tools below.
2. ServiceM8: best for call-out trades on a budget
ServiceM8 has a genuine free plan: one user and 30 jobs a month, covering jobs, quotes, invoices, clients and scheduling (free plan). Paid plans are priced by job volume, with unlimited users: Starter £25 for 50 jobs, Growing £59 for 150 and Premium £119 for 500, all ex VAT, with extra jobs at 15p each.
Here's what that means with illustrative numbers. Five people doing 120 jobs a month would fit inside Growing's 150 jobs at £59 ex VAT, or stay on Starter and pay for the extra 70 jobs: £25 + 70 × 15p = £35.50 ex VAT, if Starter's features and text allowance suit you. Five people on Tradify Pro would be 5 × £37 = £185 (VAT basis not stated). In that example, paying by the job beats paying per head comfortably.
It has a dispatch map and staff schedule (feature overview), plus Auto-Quote, which needs at least 100 completed jobs to give reasonable results. Capterra reviewers say the Android app is weaker than the iPhone one (Capterra), and we couldn't find CIS. Read Tradify vs ServiceM8 if those two are on your list.
3. Tradify: best for small trade teams who want reviews behind them
Tradify covers the trade-job loop: quotes, a scheduler, timesheets with a live timer, invoicing, and digital forms and certificates. It has a large review base, with 4.8 from about 612 reviews on Trustpilot UK.
The trade-off is per-user pricing at £34, £37 or £44 a month. A Capterra reviewer says it "can get expensive for a small business with 10+ employees/subcontractors" (Capterra). Tradify's own help centre says CIS and reverse-charge invoices need Xero or Sage connected (Tradify help). Our best Tradify alternatives roundup covers who else to look at.
4. Fergus: best for plumbing and electrical firms that want AI and a live sync
Fergus runs enquiry, quote, schedule, job card and invoice, with supplier price books, progress invoicing and variations as linked child jobs. Fergus AI, launched in September 2026, prepares quotes, invoices and follow-ups and flags un-invoiced work (Fergus AI). It syncs invoices, contacts and payments with Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks.
It charges per full user from £39 (some Fergus pages show £35, so check the live page), with cheaper timesheet users from £12 and contractor users at £2 a day on the days they're active. We put it against Jobber in Fergus vs Jobber.
5. Powered Now: best for UK gas and heating firms who want tax built in
Powered Now has more than 80 forms and certificates with a strong gas leaning, CP12 included (forms). It does native CIS, reverse charge and, on Professional and up, MTD VAT returns to HMRC. Business is £28 ex VAT for one user; Professional £32 and Premium £40 per user. The pricing page mentions unlimited users while a help article says extra users cost more, so ask before you sign (Powered Now help). See EstiMate vs Powered Now.
6. Jobber: best for home-service firms that like a client portal
In Jobber's Client Hub, clients approve quotes, request changes and pay deposits, and on Grow and selected plans they can pick optional line items (optional line items). Its AI can draft quotes for you. Prices are in US dollars: Core is $29 a month billed annually, $39 on a one-year commitment or $49 with no commitment. We couldn't find a pound price, CIS or reverse-charge support. More in our Jobber alternative post.
7. Commusoft: best for established service firms with an office team
Commusoft is UK-based and strong on heating and plumbing, with certificates, service plans, maintenance contracts and a customer portal where customers accept quotes, pay deposits and download certificates (Commusoft). It's licensed per user on a 12-month contract, price on request, and office staff, managers and engineers all need a licence (FAQs). Some reviewers say it's hard to cut licences mid-contract (Capterra). More in our Commusoft alternative post.
8. BigChange: best for fleets that want vehicle tracking built in
BigChange, now part of Simpro Group, puts job management and hard-wired vehicle tracking in one system. Its landing page lists Job Management at £79.95, Plus at £99.95 and Unlimited at £124.95 a month, but labels them both per user and per vehicle, so ask which. Trustpilot reviewers report long contracts that can't be scaled down (Trustpilot). See BigChange alternative for small firms.
What to do next
- Write down your last ten jobs and how long each one took. That tells you which half of this list you belong in.
- Work out the monthly bill at today's headcount and at the headcount you want in two years. Our per-user pricing breakdown shows the sums.
- Trial two apps side by side on the same real job, not a made-up one.
If your jobs are projects, start free and run your next one in EstiMate.
